Archive for Family / Home

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Ours was pretty nice. We spent the day cooking and hanging out. No big deal but it was nice to have Dan home and just do nothing. We had a feast and talked to all our family on the phone. David made it to CT and is getting settled in there. I am sure he is happy that boot camp is over!

I haven’t posted anything because last week I got a new laptop and I have been moving everything over to the new one. Today we finally finished cleaning my old one up and put in the mail to someone who is very much in need of a new computer! He has no idea we are sending it so he should have a big suprise once it arrives. I can’t wait!

a little news

Wow ok so today Dan’s younger brother graduated from boot camp! Honestly, the last person I ever expected to join the military. None the less amazing! He is doing really well so far and I am very happy for him.

The rain has finally decided to take a break around here! I thought I was being shot the other day when I had to go out to the post office and send out some mail. I don’t think it had ever rained like that since we moved here. I mean come on this is Washington so rain is a given but…that was more like a good old South Florida rainstorm than a laid back Northwest mist. I am glad to say that the new roof and skylights are working very nicely. We have waited a while to have a good bit of rain for the final test but I would have to say after the last week or two it is official that all is good.

we made it…

Our trip was wonderful! It started off slow with a delay at the airport but no shock there. Once we arrived in San Diego we rented a car and were headed for
Santa Monica! We ended up slightly lost on the way. However, Dan did really well considering he hasn’t driven that in quite some time. We arrived to warm, dry weather! Overall the weather was great for the whole trip. We shopped on Third Street, went to a surprise birthday party, and I have to say we had the most amazing time when we spent a alone day at
Magic Mountain.

Dan was also able to enjoy some of his favorite unhealthy food from home! Any native of California will without doubt have eaten here! I have to admit that personally am not that fond of it but my husband is like a child on Christmas morning when it comes to this. Really the big thing is their very on “special sauce” which is the part I don’t like.

We went to UCLA to have lunch with his Dad and had a wonderful time. We were forced to sneak around a bit due to the fact that his step-mother had no idea we were in town until we showed up at her surprise birthday party. Trust me it was a surprise….especially seeing us there.

We ended up driving back to San Diego a day early and staying in a hotel there. I am so glad we did because it just so happen that I was able to do a tour of the boat (sub) that my husband is currently working on! It is VERY different from the last one he was on so it was pretty cool to actually see it.

The last day we returned the rental car and took their shuttle to the airport. Dan hung out there with me for a while and then once it was time to go he got a ride back to work and I was on a plane bound for home. It was so strange to come home to an empty house with out my dog-boys. I was up early the next morning to pick them up from the vet where they were boarded. I missed them so much and they were so happy to see me!

So I have spent the last few days just trying to get caught up on emails. I came home to about 800 total. However, most of these ended up being junk mail! Sorting through it all is work I tell you. Hopefully I didn’t end up deleting anything important but if I did I am sure I’ll hear about it. My only regret is that we didn’t really take any pictures. We were so busy the whole time running around we just didn’t take any.

We did a ton of shopping and a good part of it was done at Gap buying product (red) stuff! Including an awesome limited addition book that is available. I encourage anyone and everyone to take part on this cause! If you haven’t heard about it click the link to learn more. This holiday season is the perfect time! I’ll post more on this later but please check it out!

And last but not least we spent some time here star stalking! I think this is actually my favorite place.

Looking Forward

I am so happy that the weekend is here. Since Dan doesn’t have duty this weekend we might actually be able to attend this Faire in Gig Harbor. His crazy work along with everything else going on has kept us home for a while now. My husband though he may seem a bit creepy here is really a wonderful guy. He came home with roses this week for no reason at all. That might not seem like such a big deal but to me it is.
In just a little over a week his bother is coming to visit us here in Washington. I am really happy that they are going to see each other before David leaves for boot camp. He just recently join the Navy (following in the footsteps of his older brother) and will be leaving before long. Before he arrives we do have a few more small things to finish up around here because I know our minds won’t be on work during his visit.I have updated the Divintaion page and started a list of all forms. This idea came from not being able to find one place with a complete and comprehensive list of all forms. I still have a long way to go but this is a start.

Autumn has posted a great article on her site that is really worth reading.

I’m back…

I am ashamed of the fact that I have seriously neglected this blog over the last several months. However, it was all for the greater good. As of yesterday the work on our home was finally completed. It is unfortunate that some things were put aside while the work was in progress but we are so happy with the end result. Now our normal daily life can resume and we can sit back and relax…for today. I’m sharing a before and after photo and as you can (hopefully see) drastic changes have taken place. We knew when we bought the house a little over a year ago that there was work involved but we also felt that doing that work would make the home feel special and our own. So here it is..1 new roof, 5 new skylights, all new gutters, 1 new storm door, 1 new garage door, 1 new red front door and freshly painted trim!! This is just on the outside. We have also replaced the kitchen floor and yes we did it with out hiring someone to come and do it for it us.Now with that all behind us I will continue with all the many project that were in the works when this began.

The first photo is the “before” the next is the “after” the last two are of the new floor we installed. Click on the image to enlarge it.

Blessed Be

Happy Mother’s Day

We did the long distance thing again this year. Dan’s brother was kind enough to pick up and deliver the flowers we ordered over the phone. He hand delivered to both CA Mom’s and they both loved the flowers and sent pictures. I hope everyone else out there has a wonderful Mother’s Day!

The Wall

Dan is home again and I am so glad! He should be staying for a little while this time but as always who knows? He is off for the next few days so we plan on just hanging out and enjoying the weather. Hopefully we can play around in the yard. That is play around with the yard! The grass was getting pretty out of hand so I was very happy to find out he is coming home and can work that out. We still have some weird seed/weed growing out there. Dan thought it might be the grass trying to seed but then someone else told me it was just a weed. Maybe our grass is the weed! Other wise the lawn is look great and nothing like it did a year ago when we first got here. This picture also shows the the almost new wall! We still haven’t decided exactly what we want to do with it.

Falling, Falling, Falling

Today wasn’t the first time and I’m sure it won’t be the last but I have once again tripped and fallen down the stairs in our house. Thankfully it isn’t a full staircase or chances are I would be in the hospital right now. I actually only hurt my ankle so I am thankful for that. Many more of these falls and I am likely to have some brain damage!
